What can I say, friends? This month is incredibly important for us LGBTQIA folks.
It might sound crazy, but there are still people in the community who struggle when planning their wedding. From the need to essentially come out to each vendor you hire, to trying to creatively plan an event that honours your identities while also incorporating traditions - it’s not easy! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had potential clients ask, “Do you do same sex weddings?” (To clear the air, the answer to that is a resounding ‘YES!!!!!’).
Tampa is a beautifully diverse area, but we do fall short sometimes. LQBTQIA people need to feel safe when planning their big day, so I’m going to do my part to make it happen...
Every June I ask myself what I can do to give back, and every June I get cold feet because I can’t think of anything.
This year will be different. This year, I’m giving away my Day-of Coordination services to one LGBTQIA couple. What do I want in return? I want you to tell me your story. At the end of the day, I’m a story teller. I tell love stories using the medium of an event. So write to me. Send your love stories to John@johncweddings.com and I’ll read them (while crying like a big baby). If you’re the winners, your story will be featured on my Instagram, and I’ll do everything I can to make your wedding day as stress free as possible.

Today I'm giving you a throwback - this wedding is long overdue for a blog post!
A beautiful Spring wedding that incorporated a nautical motif in a wonderfully understated way.
Kelly and Bruce could not have asked for a more perfect day to have a wedding. They said their 'I Do's' on a breezy Spring afternoon overlooking the serene views of Boca Ciega Bay, and, as cheesy as it might sound, it almost felt like time stood still for just a little while during the calm of their ceremony.
I'm obsessed with portraits and detail shots, and those are two things that Ledia Tashi photographs exceptionally well. Nearly a year later, and I'm still drawn to the images of Kelly and Bruce and still posting them on social media. With that said, I'm going to let these photos speak for themselves...
Anyone who knows me well knows that I hate my photo taken... BUT I genuinely appreciate when a client asks to get a photo with me. Knowing that someone appreciates my work so much that they want to have a picture with me really means the world.
Takeaways from this wedding:
-You can never give me too much information. I meet and talk with my clients a number of times. Even when it seems like we're going off topic, I'm gathering important information about your big day. At our final meeting, Kelly mentioned in passing that a vendor was going to throw in an extra service because the couple accidentally overpaid them. Rather than take a refund, they just wanted to go the easier route. On the day of the wedding, that vendor didn't deliver. Since Kelly mentioned that conversation to me, I was able to notice that something was missing and iron out that little bump. Now I use this experience as a way of explaining to clients that no bit of information is unnecessary. If you want to tell me something, please do! In the end, it will make you feel more at ease, and I'll be happier for having less last-minute things to deal with.
-There are smart ways to DIY. I always tell clients that "DIY=Cheap" is a huge myth. Usually, couples who completely DIY a Pinterest-worthy wedding end up wasting a lot of money and time (and give themselves added stress). Kelly and Bruce chose items to DIY that would actually save money without becoming a burden. Rather than rent specialty vases from her florist, Kelly slowly collected Delft vases throughout her planning process. She knew she would use these after the wedding in their home, and was also able to give some away as gifts at the end of the night (I still have mine!). Instead of hiring a photobooth - the espresso cart was more important to them - Kelly and Bruce DIY'd a simple photo backdrop and bought inexpensive props. Their guests had just as much fun at their selfie station, and the couple was able to use that money elsewhere.
Thanks so much for having us as a part of your special day, Kelly and Bruce! We'll never forget it!

Some words to describe Jess and Jordan's wedding? Trendy. Bohemian. Sentimental.
The second I met Jess and Jordan, I knew I would love working with them. Their laid-back personalities immediately made me feel at ease, and their obvious chemistry and compatibility quickly got me invested in their love story. Not only did we connect professionally, but I definitely found some kindred spirits in these two. I always ask my clients, "What is your number one wedding day priority?"
When they answered, 'We want to eat as much food as possible - especially cheese,' I knew we would get along!
What are some takeaways from this wedding?
-Don't sweat the small stuff (That's what you hire a planner/coordinator for!)
-Take the time for some alone time. Even if it's just a few minutes snacking on some cheese between photos. It's not easy to stop and mentally separate yourself from all of the craziness going on around you, but you'll appreciate having those small, sweet moments of privacy when the party is over.
-A great team can make a huge difference. Jess and Jordan picked an excellent team of vendors who were easy to work with and made their night flow perfectly. There's something to be said about hiring reputable professionals!
Here's to you, Jess and Jordan! I wish you both all the best!
